Mobile Campus
Prior to March 2008, the Mobile Campus website was geared towards universities. However, we decided to make students our primary focus, thus requiring a major website overhaul. Working with our VP of Marketing, Brandon Hartman, we started to search out a design firm that could put something together at a low cost. To save costs, the design firm would only create the homepage template. It was my job to slice the website in Photoshop and actually make it a website.
I did not design this website, I simply made it functional.
Our time from design to launch was one month.

Students would come to our website and enter their phone number. After pressing "register/login" we would detect if the user was registered via mobile (thus they needed to create a profile) or was a new member. If we did not know the student's university affiliation, we would ask them to enter it by using an autosuggest textbox.

Allowing users to create custom weather or traffic alerts was key to Mobile Campus' initial success. A user could schedule the alert to arrive any day at any time so that it would fit with their class schedule. This feature utilizes Google Weather's API and Yahoo Traffic's API. Once the information is obtained, it's run through logic to shorten words (ie: Thunderstorms to Tstorms) and ensure that all information is in one text message.

After the user registers, a text message is sent to the user's phone asking them to confirm their membership (this is required by the Mobile Marketing Association). The user is also presented with a list of offers nearby and can preview the option by hovering over the keyword. By pressing the orange cellphone button, the offer is sent to the user's cellphone immediately.
